What Is a EUR-Pallet and Why Does It Matter for Drink Distribution?
Share
If you're new to wholesale logistics, "EUR-pallet" is a term you'll encounter immediately. Understanding what it is and how it affects your shipment planning can save you time, money, and confusion on your first import order.
EUR-Pallet Basics
A EUR-pallet (also called an EPAL pallet) is the standardised wooden pallet used across European freight:
- Dimensions: 120cm × 80cm × 14.4cm (length × width × height)
- Weight (empty): approximately 25kg
- Maximum load: typically 1,000–1,500kg depending on carrier
- Maximum stacking height: typically 160–180cm (product + pallet)
EUR-pallets are standardised so that warehouses, trucks, and loading docks across Europe are built to handle them interchangeably. A truck that fits EUR-pallets in Germany fits the same pallets in France, Spain, or Sweden.
How Many EUR-Pallets Fit in a Truck?
A standard European semi-trailer (13.6m loading length) accommodates 33 EUR-pallets in a single layer. This is the basis for full truckload (FTL) freight pricing.
For partial truckload (LTL/groupage) shipments, you pay for the pallets you use. A 10-pallet shipment uses roughly 30% of a truck's capacity.
Why It Matters for NOCCO and Vitamin Well Orders
Our products are palletised on EUR-pallets as standard. Knowing the pallet configuration helps you:
- Calculate how many cases you're ordering
- Estimate freight costs (number of pallets × cost per pallet)
- Plan warehouse space at your end
- Verify that your receiving dock can handle standard EUR-pallets
NOCCO: 80 cases per pallet (1,920 cans). Vitamin Well: ~125 cases per pallet (~1,500 bottles). Barebells: ~100 cases per pallet (~800 milkshakes).
Pallet Exchange
EUR-pallets are typically exchanged — you return empty pallets to the carrier, or a pallet exchange fee is included in freight pricing. Your freight forwarder will advise on the arrangement for your specific route.
